A Cause for Concern

The recent civil unrest in Egypt certainly has the world's attention, but what of the Copts? Before the current eruption of violence and unrest there had been several murders of Coptic Christians by Muslim fundamentalists. Now that the Muslim Brotherhood is fueling the fires of civil war in Egypt, I worry about the survival of the Copts.

This is for numerous reasons, but the most compelling is that the authorities are concerned with their own survival and the suppression of the mob and they are therefore unable to assist or protect the Christians residing in Egypt and where once the moderates of Egypt stood with them, the Copts now find themselves alone in a cruel and merciless environment. Because the Muslim Brotherhood need not fear the government's interference, the threat to the Copts has never been greater.

Muslims have historically used the Copts for the objects of rape, murder, and kidnapping and this was during the time that the Copts could count on the Egyptian government for assistance. What is life for them like now?

I ask you to pray for the protection of these people because they most certainly need it now more than ever. My darkest fear is that when the violence and chaos is over the world will find that the Copts have experienced a religious cleansing in Egypt and I seriously doubt that justice will find those responsible for the genocide. Keep them in your thoughts and prayers and may God help and defend those of His followers still remaining in Egypt.
