We The People


When, in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the laws of nature and of nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shown that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security. --Such has been the patient sufferance of these colonies; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former systems of government

You will recognize the above text as the words of the Declaration of Independence. The two paragraphs above make clear these principles:


1. The people are sovereign and must consent to loan their authority to any government

2. That decency and respect must be observed

3. That the rights of man come only from God and therefore cannot be created by man

4. That the individual is more important than the collective masses

5. That equality is the right of all men as individuals and under the law

6. That it is the right of man to free himself from an oppressive and tyrannical government

There is a reason why the founding fathers deposited political power into the hands of the American people. It was because it is only they who can be fully trusted with it. No government can be trusted with raw power because such power tends to concentrate into the hands of a few men and thus are tyrannies and despots born. This is because it is in man’s nature to seek power for himself and to accumulate as much as he can in his lifetime in order to establish dominance over others. If political power is reserved to the people alone, then each citizen acts as a check upon the other and nobody acquires too much power and therefore the balance cannot be threatened.

The people also act as a check upon the government. Most high schools teach about the constitutional checks and balances, but never have I heard of anyone teaching about the people’s check of power on the government outside of the founders. Those who roam the halls of power in Washington do not wish you to learn that you possess that check in order to protect their own accumulation of power. This is why the government no longer listens to you.

Even as citizens protest in anger in the streets of the nation, those in Washington call them Astroturf and jeer and ridicule them for their efforts. The American people have been asleep for so long, that the Federal government no longer has any fear of the citizen at all and that has led to the arrogance and elitism displayed by the mighty in Washington as they wipe their shoes upon the U.S. Constitution as the government seized control of one sixth of the U.S. economy with Obamacare.

Never before in the history of the United States has a citizen been forced to purchase a product because he is alive. The government calls this a tax, I call it tyranny. The people of America were vehemently opposed to this ridiculous idea, but the Federal government rammed it down our throats anyway with a tart rejoinder that the bill had to pass before we, the American people, could learn what was in it. Yet, the President and the Congress had sworn that the process would be open and transparent. What was delivered was opaque and done behind closed doors with the intent of keeping the American people ignorant, but this is not new.

The government keeps multiple sets of books so that they can lie to the American people with a set of doctored papers to back them up and if that does not work, they can always feed a list of numbers to the GAO and get their asses covered that way. With our national debt exceeding 90% of the GDP and Congress still spending massive amounts of money to pay off their friends in education and labor, it is likely that we are digging our way to China. One day however, the bill will come due and the American economy will collapse. Don’t believe that? Then check out why Greece’s economy collapsed and why the European Union is chewing their finger nails. If the economic picture were not so bleak, there is the nationalization of industry and the banks to be concerned about.

Regardless of what lies the Congress and White House tell, the truth is that they are Marxists/socialists/progressives who despise capitalism. In fact, they wish to see the greatest engine for wealth creation taken apart brick by brick in order to make us all poor. That is why there are so many communists and Maoists surrounding the President, as Czars, and in the Congress itself. It is why they nationalized the commercial banks, it is why they nationalized two thirds of the auto industry, and it is why they socialized medicine despite the vehement opposition of the American people.

Don’t think that they have not preserved a means of lining their own pockets though. The Chicago Climate Exchange is the best example of their greed. Why do you think that the Federal government is still pushing Cap and Trade to save the planet when global warming has been exposed as a massive fraud across the globe? Because Cap and Trade will allow them to sell a non-existent product to solve a non-existent problem and you are the guy who has to pay for it. Business will be forced to purchase carbon credits and will pass that cost on to you, the consumer. In fact, your energy costs alone will rise by more than $1,000.00. Then there are the taxes.

Sure the government is printing money morning, noon, and night, but you can’t keep paying your bills with fresh money or you will end up like Zimbabwe. That means that new taxes are on the way to the American citizen and they are going to be huge. One of the ways that Congress will seek to pay for its incompetence is to create the Value Added Tax or VAT. In Europe, the VAT is a happy little tax that dramatically increases the cost of living for the wretched citizens overseas. The Congress and the President hope to bring that here so that they can pay for the newly created welfare state that they have created in addition to your income taxes. Maybe if you are lucky, you can keep 20 cents on every dollar that you earn, if you still have a job that is. Then there is the emasculation the military.

The use of the U.S. military for social experimentation has long been a leftist habit. It began in the 1970’s when we tried to feminize the American military and bleed off its testosterone in an effort to make it a kinder and gentler thing. Today, we give soldiers medals for cowardice, sorry, I mean restraint. The next thing you know, the administration will reward soldiers for dropping their weapons on the field of battle and running away screaming like a little girl. They will probably call that medal the NOW medal. I believe that the job of any military is to kill people and to destroy infrastructure and manufacturing. Unless I am very much mistaken, you cannot do that in a friendly way. By expecting anything else from the military you are sacrificing more blood than is necessary to win. If that means more civilian casualties, then so be it.

I do not blame the government for these ridiculous programs, I blame us. We allowed it to happen and some of us even cheered for it. We the people, have a responsibility to discharge while the soldier does his job overseas. It is our responsibility to insure that we protect and defend the U.S. Constitution from its enemies in the Congress and the White House and we do that by voting the bastards out of office. This is not about any political party. This is not about who gets more power. This is about freedom and what future we will bequeath to our children. Honest men will have differences of opinion, but when the government usurps the authority and sovereignty of the citizen with the intent of consolidating their power, it is time to act decisively.

The rule of the public was meant to be done by the States because the State is closer to the people than is the Federal government. Yet, the Federal government seeks to also usurp the power and authority of the States and this is why 37 State legislatures have introduced legislation asserting their rights under the 10th amendment. The power and size of the Federal government is such now that our very freedoms are threatened. If we do not act now, there is no guarantee that we will still have that prerogative in the future. We must awaken our neighbors, friends, and associates and urge them to stand for freedom come November and to clear the Congress of its corruption. If we do not, then we will richly deserve the government that we live under.

Yep, it has to come from the people, the choice is always with the people, to choose freedom or dependence. Unfortunately, far too many in the west are choosing to sell our freedom and liberty, not just their own, for a free buck and for someone else to be the responsible adult.

Number four is one that I personally place a great deal of importance on (not to diminish the importance of the other points of course)...

Once again, an excellent post, William.

I especially love your point about the military. The purpose of the military is to protect us and to kick the ass of anyone who threatens us. Period.

Thank you Karen, he is in hospice now and the process will be drawn out, but he made it to near 97 and I believe that he is anxious to leave this world for the next one.

He misses my grandmother who passed away three years ago and I believe that he wants to see her again on the other side. I feel blessed that I had his company for so long, but saying farewell is always difficult even if it is only temporary.
